The Music of Cole Porter

Cole Porter’s music depicts brilliant melodies, harmony, rhythm and form. His lyrics often display a sense of humorous poetry, containing wordplay and double layers, inviting you to find your own interpretation.
In contrast with the light and joyous side there is also tremendous melancholy in Porter’s music. This contrast speaks to me. Looking back at a year of sleep deprivation and challenges, the songs on this album somehow reflect the melancholy, joy and growth I encountered in this period.

With my albums I try to give expression to personal experiences. Preferably by writing originals and arranging, but with a busy schedule and full head the works of another composer can also inspire me.
In previous years most of my work has been in larger settings and big bands. The trio setting with guitar and acoustic bass is the perfect counter balance. To play at softer volumes and feel more room for nuances in sound and sensation of inner time.

I’m thankful for sharing the passion of this music with Davor and Tomek, for the fun we have rehearsing and for their artistic input in the making of this recording. Working with first-class sound engineer Frans de Rond and producer Peter Björnild has been of vital importance to capture an honest and pure reflection of our music. Our mutual taste for sound and style makes it easy sailing. And lastly I’m very thankful for Mara, for sharing your love & life with me, for inspiring, listening, confronting and helping me and for the beautiful album artwork.
